How to Curate a Non-Conformist Wardrobe: A Stylist’s Strategy for the Artistic Individualist

As a personal stylist for women based in Seattle, I’ve been creating Uber Wishlists for more than a decade. An Uber Wishlist is comprehensive shopping list designed specifically for one client. I take into account her Poplin Filters: body type, color palette, personal style key words, budget, size and values when designing each list. Importantly, I also am thoughtful about the pieces that she already owns. After all, there’s no need to buy new jeans when you already have several that are winners. (That was the case with this client.)

I’ve always appreciated the flexibility and wonder that online shopping lists provide. Rather than being restricted to the items at a handful of nearby stores, wishlists offer up the entire internet filled with an array of unique choice and combinations.

The Non-Conformist’s Guide: 60+ Brands for the Artistic Individualist

As a personal stylist for women based in Seattle, one of my very favorite parts of the job is helping each client channel her authentic personal style. I don’t dress her like everyone else. I don’t dress her like me.

We create a curated collection of pieces that flatter her frame, are in her color palette, are functional for her lifestyle and fit into her budget. And every one is authentic to HER style.

Since we kicked off this business in 2013, we’ve included online shopping lists (AKA Wishlists and Uber Wishlists) as an integral part of the shopping process. As we emerged from COVID, it was clear that those would become the bread and butter of the shopping experience as local shopping options became more limited and online choices continued to expand.

Must Have: The Perfect Product to Look Cool While Staying Warm this Spring

As a personal stylist for women, I hear so many questions about how to dress for the shoulder seasons. As we transition from colder temperatures to sunnier days, there is this instinctive pull to wear more warm weather clothes. Seattle-ites (like me), constantly make jokes about having Seasonal Affective Disorder, affectionately known as SAD. But, the manic wave of enthusiasm we all feel as the sun comes out highlights that there must be some element of truth to it all.

While I technically became a Pacific Northwesterner more than two decades ago, my inner Californian pines for spring dresses and open toed shoes long before our local weather endorses them.

One Piercing, Infinite Possibilities: Master the Illusion Earring Trend

As a personal stylist for women, I am constantly trend-watching. I have always been ahead of the curve (style-wise and otherwise), so I often get an idea and then spend weeks, months, or even years on the hunt. I get it. I love it. And after a while, everyone else loves it, too ;)

If you, like me, get ideas and then need to find the actual item that has been "paying rent in your mind," I’ve got you. Alternatively, if you are happy to see inspiration and jump on board, I’m here for that, too.

The One Styling Shift That Makes Barrel Jeans Work (On Real Bodies)

As a personal stylist for women, I have the advantage of listening to women as they face their style conundrums. Some are overarching challenges, like creating new outfits from existing pieces or understanding how to liven up your existing wardrobe.

Others are more specifically focused on the friction between wanting to wear a new trend and actually being able to make it happen.

Few trends have been as perplexing to women as barrel pants.

2025: The Year to Rise Up — Poplin-Land Edition

I’m famous for not remembering the big things. I remember the small things—interactions with people, kind gestures, meaningful moments. But I often forget the very big things. Like being quoted multiple times in CNN Underscored, for example. 😉 That sort of thing.

So when it came time to look back at Poplin’s 2025, I was genuinely surprised by just how many important milestones we reached this year. Huge thanks to my camera roll and calendar for jogging my memory.

Whether you’re new to Poplin or have been here for years, I’m curious how much of this will feel familiar to you. (My marketing brain wants it all to feel recognizable. The part of me that wants you to feel joy right now hopes some of it feels fresh and exciting. A mix of the two feels just right.)

Enough talk—let’s take a look at Poplin in 2025.

We had a very big year over here, so we’re highlighting 2025 across three blog posts. Below, you’ll find our most-read blog posts from the year. Let’s see how many of these you remember reading.

The New Standard for Loungewear

As a personal stylist for women based in Seattle, loungewear is a big topic of conversation. Yes, we’ve all become more casual over the past several years. But, if you live in a wet or cold place, you really know something about the significance of the right loungewear.

While we all want to be comfortable, it’s important to remember the very real and positive impact of wearing clothes that make you feel good. That can easily be confused with what’s comfortable or functional, because those pieces give you the freedom to move freely for whatever opportunity arises. But functionality can only take you so far. Wearing something that is super cozy, but makes you cringe when you look in the mirror does not set you up for success. This is an integral part of choosing the right loungewear.

We’re Featured in CNN Underscored! Read Our Expert Tips on Jeans and Tights.

As a personal stylist for women, I have endless opinions about all things style. So when the team at CNN Underscored reached out with questions about tights and high-waisted jeans, I had plenty to say. I’m always profoundly grateful when Poplin is included in the press.—especially because we aren’t on Facebook, Instagram, X, or any of the usual social platforms.

That’s why every time years of blog posts, SEO, client love, and online reviews lead to organic press, we take a moment to celebrate. It’s deeply meaningful.

Atomic Habits and Style: Lessons from our Recent Poplin Style & Women in Finance Workshop

As a personal stylist for women based in Seattle, my days are varied. On any given day, you may find me styling a client at her home, designing her Wishlist in my office or creating knockout outfits at either location. I might also be finding inspiration at retailers at home or out of the area. (In the last year, I’ve shopped Paris, Zurich, Copenhagen, Montreal, San Francisco, LA and of course, Seattle- all in person.)

I certainly spend a lot of time researching trends, retailers and more online and finding ideas direct from the fashion world, watching women I see IRL or just playing around with my own OOTD.

I’m guessing that you expected all of these activities. As it turns out, we’ve also got a few surprises. I spend a great deal of time in Continuum, the online membership exclusively for Poplin clients or on our group coaching program. I also devote time giving back to the community, especially with the Washington Women’s Foundation.

From Suede to Shearling: 52 Fall Trends Worth Braving the Rain For

One of the great joys of being a personal stylist for women is diving into seasonal trends, especially fall. I’ve been sharing my favorite fall trends for more than a decade, and this exercise never gets old. In fact, my biggest obstacles are narrowing down the list and preventing myself from shopping the entire time I write. Sigh.

As the temperatures drop, being excited about putting together an outfit can feel harder—but that’s where fall fashion trends come in. This year, we’re going for something a little different. Members of Continuum, the exclusive membership for Poplin clients, are integrating fall trends into their daily looks as part of the lifetime style support they enjoy after completing their styling package.

This One Poplin Membership Lesson Might Change How You See Your Closet

We’re less than one month into Continuum — the Poplin membership designed exclusively for Poplin clients — and members are already finding new ways to fall in love with their closets again.

As a personal stylist for women, my goal has always been to help each client embrace her authentic personal style, choose pieces that flatter her existing frame, and do it all while reducing her cognitive load.

I often say that I’m teaching her to fish rather than simply choosing a few lovely outfits. Because understanding how to not just get dressed, but to love what you’re wearing — well, that’s a game changer.

For over a dozen years, I’ve heard requests for ongoing support as life evolves. We listened, we tested, we tweaked. And earlier this month, we launched Continuum, the membership designed to offer Poplin clients a lifetime of style support. Members enjoy a strong sense of community, ongoing learning, encouragement from one another, and manageable monthly challenges.

Reclaim Your Style Story: A Postpartum Guide to Dressing for Work

It’s been 15 years since I went back to work after the birth of my son, but as a personal stylist for women based in Seattle, I see many of my clients struggle with the same challenges. In fact, this post was inspired by a request from our recent Women in Finance Workshop.

It’s hard enough navigating the complexities of life with a newborn, whether or not you have other children. Heading back to the office can be both exhilarating and exhausting. But when you factor in not only what to wear, but how to feel good in your ever-changing body, things get even more complicated.

You Asked. We Listened. Now Offering a Lifetime of Style Support.

We are officially launching a lifetime of support.

That’s right. From the very first Poplin clients back in October 2013 to the new ones still to come — everyone who works with us now has the opportunity to join our exclusive client membership: Continuum.

For years, clients have asked me how they could keep the magic going after their Poplin Package. They loved the clarity, the confidence, and the joy they felt — and they wanted that same level of support as their lives and styles continued to evolve. I’ve been listening. And now, after a lot of thought and care, I’m thrilled to say: we’ve figured it out.

My Favorite Master Aesthetician Shares All

As a personal stylist for women based in Seattle, I know that style is not only about clothes. Understanding how to take care of your skin is a skill and having access to high quality information on that topic is challenging. Sure, there’s an abundance of information about skincare online, but who do you trust? And how much is rooted in profit, rather than serving you with the the right info for you?

When it comes to skincare, my approach is to ask Kelly Perez Snyder during a visit to Cake Skincare. She’s my go-to for high quality information based in experience and coming from a place of service. During our Momentum Membership, Kelly shared her expertise with our membership for a month filled with excellent recommendations and helpful Q&As.

More Access to One of Your Favorite Brands is Around the Corner

As a personal stylist for women, I spend a great deal of time perusing retailers online and in real life. As much as I might adore a brand or style, I only recommend it for a client when it communicates her authentic personal style, is available in her color palette and flatters her frame.

Sometimes, there are incredible pieces that work for a wide variety of body types. The right wide leg pant is one of those pieces.

And no brand has mastered this cut better than Anthropologie’s own, Maeve. Regardless of your style or body type, it’s likely that you have at least one Maeve piece in your closet. The most popular choice being the Colette. The pant style is available in a zillion fabric choices and even expanded to skirts, dresses and jumpsuits in the last couple of years.
