Handheld steamer

If you travel, a portable steamer is essential. One might assume that these wouldn't be powerful enough to bother. In many cases, that's true. But this one is going to blow your mind. And  yes, you can simply have a portable steamer and skip the upright. It's really about what's best for you. I like to have both .

Hot tip: Keep your portable steamer in a logical place at home so you can find it when you are ready to take a trip. I like to keep ours in the laundry room next to the dryer sheets and Dryel (another essential for keeping pieces fresh).

Upright steamer

I've been loving this one for 4 years or so. They have newer models and those have also been successful with my clients. I recommend keeping it in the corner of the room, your closet or even another room that's easily accessible. We keep ours in my office. My husband steams his clothes every morning. I've heard this from several clients, too. Apparently, their partners really enjoy the steaming process.

Hot tip: Hang a hook from your ceiling so that you can hand clothes high enough to steam the entire piece. Make sure the hook is low enough to reach.

Dryer Balls

I am obsessed with organic dryer balls. If you are looking for a small but mighty step toward helping the environment and simplifying your life, dryer balls are the answer. They cut down drying time up to 30-50%, depending on your dryer. That means less energy usage AND less time in between loads. They also decrease wrinkles and static cling.

A Stylish, Compact and Effective Lint Roller

What’s worse than leaving a friend’s house to discover that you are covered in dog hair? Okay, not seeing your friend is worse. But, the ideal situation is to see your friend AND not have to worry about hair or lint all over your otherwise stellar outfit. How do you do it? Make sure to have a lint roller available. I like to keep one in my dresser drawer with my clothes and another in my car or handbag. This one is one of my favs.

Dryel

Dry cleaning is expensive. In many cases, you can wash an item in the delicate cycle and hang it to dry. But, that’s not always the case. For dry clean only items, consider trying Dryel. I wouldn’t use it on a super expensive designer piece; but it does work very well for sweaters and other items listed as, “dry clean only.” Try at your own risk, of course.

Fabric Shaver

For wear and tear on sweaters, a fabric shaver can increase the life of your pieces and is a pretty gratifying task once you dive in. My friend, Annie Traurig is an effective home organizer and recommends this Gleener shaver above all others. It comes with a lint brush and three different edges to target a different kind of pill. You can even use it on cushions and upholstry! My clients love it.

Hanging Storage

Your closet should feel like a boutique curated just for you. Therefore, if something doesn’t fit you right now, it should not be in your closet. That doesn’t mean you need to give it away. Instead, store it in another location in your house. If a few pieces need to be stored, try a closet in another room. If there are more, I like these. Everything can be hung and is accessible, without being in your closet. I keep mine in the garage.

Let me know how it goes! Need a little extra help? That's what I'm here for. And, hey, congratulations on taking your style to the next level. I knew you could do it.

The Right Hangers

If you need more room in your closet, if you find that when you hang pieces they get stretched out or if you find comfort is having everything look nice and orderly, these hangers are for you. Really. I love them and they do all the things. Plus, they remind you of Jennifer Lawrence in that movie. So that’s fun.

A Jewelry Organizer

If you don’t see it, you won’t wear it. If your jewelry is in chaos or due to space issues needs to be tucked away somewhere, you can still wear it. Simply put a note on your calendar to get out your jewelry every couple of weeks. Select a handful of pieces that work together and then leave them out to wear repeatedly until the next calendar appointment. That’s a totally fine thing to do. But, if you’d really like to simplify your life while elevating your style, get your jewelry in order so that you can see it or at least access it easily on a daily basis. I love these organizing trays that stack and have various options. Because I have large earrings, bracelets and rings, I go for trays with larger compartments. Choose what’s best for you. Here’s a selection of glorious organizing tools for jewelry. If you are looking for something beautiful to sit out where people can see it, this is my favorite place to go. I also really love giving beautiful items to organize jewelry as gifts.

Silk Pillowcase

My husband got me my first set of silk pillowcases and I’ve been reminded how much I love them every night when I go to sleep. First, I can immediately tell which pillow is mine:) But the real joy of silk pillowcases is how magical they are for your skin. Help your skin retain moisture and prevent wrinkles while decreasing bed head and split ends. Here’s a list of 10 reasons why a silk pillowcase will bring you joy. Fun fact: They are affordable, too.

Roll Up Sun Visor with SPF

Protecting your skin from the sun is key, as we all know. But just because the sun has come out doesn’t mean that there’s proper protection on hand, unless you plan ahead. As soon as the sun starts appearing, it’s time to put my seasonal style essentials in my bag. I’m obsessed with this roll up visor. I keep one in my handbag and another in the console or glove compartment of my car with my spare sunglasses. You never know when you need that little something extra to keep the sun out of your eyes. I prefer natural to ensure that it works with any outfit, especially because I wear a lot of prints.

Anti- Chafing Stick

This is a product that you see and either hear music play or just skim right over. If you’ve ever experienced chafing, especially with bare legs in the hot sun, you’ll want to pick up this natural product from the founder of the 12ish Style.

Jewelry Wipes

Sure, it’s better to get your jewelry professionally cleaned. Yes, it also works to use a jewelry cleaning machine. Those are true statements. For those of you, who like me, cannot seem to find the time to clean your jewelry, these jewelry wipes are going to blow your mind. Stash some in your nightstand so you can quickly spruce up your jewelry after you take it off at night or put some in your handbag when you have a moment and notice that your gems really aren’t all that sparkly. If the most expensive item you own isn’t catching anyone’s eye, it’s time for jewelry wipes.

This is just the beginning. We’ll continue to add onto this page over time, so check back for style essentials to simplify your life.
