How to Curate a Non-Conformist Wardrobe: A Stylist’s Strategy for the Artistic Individualist

As a personal stylist for women based in Seattle, I’ve been creating Uber Wishlists for more than a decade. An Uber Wishlist is comprehensive shopping list designed specifically for one client. I take into account her Poplin Filters: body type, color palette, personal style key words, budget, size and values when designing each list. Importantly, I also am thoughtful about the pieces that she already owns. After all, there’s no need to buy new jeans when you already have several that are winners. (That was the case with this client.)

I’ve always appreciated the flexibility and wonder that online shopping lists provide. Rather than being restricted to the items at a handful of nearby stores, wishlists offer up the entire internet filled with an array of unique choice and combinations.

If you have yet to view sample wishlists from real life Poplin clients, you’ll love this collection.

However, if you’re a longtime fan of these, as I know many of you are, this one is going to surprise you. My client shared a Pinterest board filled with avant-garde pieces and maximalist outfits. More is more is more on this list. Several outfit photos included multiple prints in one outfit. Because of this, I opted to go for a new approach. This time, I repeated the same items throughout the list, highlighting how they would pair together in a wide variety of ways.

Feel free to shop the list yourself or just take inspiration. Remember that maintaining the same color palette stretches the combination of prints and textures that work in one look. Have a great time with this combination of items and I can’t wait to hear what you all think. Before we begin, here are a few of the pins that inspired the list.

And lastly, remember that Uber Wishlists included only pieces that are available in this client’s size, color palette and budget. Enjoy!

And so it begins! Your Pinterest Board and our time together inspired this list. It’s a delightful mix of complex outfits showing off your next level style. Because you have a collection of expressive prints at home, we’ll able to create a wide collection of new looks by supplementing your current wardrobe with the items on your list. I’ve also shown multiple ways to wear individual pieces (especially the investment pieces) to illustrate the flexibility of each item. You’ll see specific pieces repeatedly but paired differently each time.

Some outfits are bold, bolder and even bolder with the mix of patterns. Note that you can always scale back (or continue to amp up even more!). Off we go!

It took ages to find the right print blazers as we head into summer. But it was SO WORTH IT, especially with sale prices. I’m obsessed with this double-breasted choice for you. It’s an investment and shows up several times on this list to justify the price. It’s also on sale! So snatch it up. Yes! The print is masculine-inspired and it’s clear from your Pinterest Board that these prints speak to you. I adore them paired up with feminine prints- some on this list and some in your wardrobe.

Let’s make sure you have key leopard print pieces as it is a neutral that will pair with endless pieces. Your Raquel Allegra harem pants are a favorite and comfort is key. So, we’re bringing this look together with a really stellar pair of pants from Roucha. No one offers cuts like this brand and I’m thrilled for you to add some to your collection. Finishing things off, you adore your expressive heels so we’re going to continue with that theme. This pair from United Nude is truly the most comfortable pair of shoes. I wear them when I travel. You’ll need a pair of great black shoes to bring outfits together and these are sure to draw compliments.

Shifting to a lighter color palette, it’s time to showcase another must have blazer. This print is easy to pair with your collection of florals and it add visual interest for an outfit filled with neutrals. Lovely, expressive and feminine blouses are the key to elevating your wardrobe and giving off a luxury vibe while still keeping things unexpected. Sezanne was all over your board- and for good reason. This piped choice is so cool and will easily integrate black into any look.We chatted about the importance of a great coat and this Marcella find will serve you for years to come. The cocoon style means it fits nicely over all these jackets, making it very useful. You’re going to love the fabric and the price for the quality. It’s a great value. Finally, we wrap up this look with these comfortable and elevated wide leg high waisted pants. They’ll flatter your frame are in your color palette and we’re on your board! The Kit has a wide variety of prints, some great, some less so. But when you find a winner- it’s definitely worth it. You’ll quickly discover how useful this print top is as it brings bold colors to the look and pulls out several shades in your collar palette. This look (like all of them on the list) also minimizes your stomach. You haven’t been wearing skirts as much and with a perfect collection of dresses, we’re focusing on separates. Your board didn’t have many dresses and it’s clear from your edit, that you have a solid grasp of how to choose dresses that flatter your frame. This skirt is effortless without being sloppy or boring and you’ll. love those pockets and the price. Dress it up or down. It’s a workhorse.
