I’ve been a Gary Manuel super-fan for years. Each location feels like a retreat from the world, and in my experience, their stylists are consistently top-tier. The salon is locally owned, deeply community-minded, and has been giving back since day one.
When I first moved to Seattle more than 20 years ago — on a limited budget — I went to the Gary Manuel Aveda Institute. As my income grew, I saved up to see the same incredible stylist at Gary Manuel every few months for my cut and color. Eventually, she moved on — and so did I.
When downtown Seattle began to struggle after COVID, I made a commitment to move all my beauty appointments to Pioneer Square and downtown to help support the city I love. That’s when I started seeing Lindsay at Gary Manuel’s Pioneer Square location — and I’ve never looked back.
Lindsay isn’t just a gifted stylist and long-time regular at New York Fashion Week — she also plays a key role in training the next generation of stylists at Gary Manuel. After graduating from the Aveda Institute, new stylists assist seasoned pros in the salon, gaining hands-on experience and mentorship every step of the way. Clients (like me!) get to interact with these talented interns — who are thoughtful, curious, and eager to learn. It’s inspiring to watch such a well-run training program in action. (Plus, there’s always a tasty beverage and those delightful plastic sleeves to protect my glasses during color appointments.)
