Years Later: The Sustained Style Series

Featuring clients who have trusted Poplin for 5 to 12+ years.

Poplin began in 2013 when I left my career in philanthropy to dive into what had, until then, just been a hobby. Now, more than a decade later, I’m having the time of my life with an assortment of new and ongoing clients. Between styling services and Continuum, our exclusive membership for clients, I spend my days getting to know an extraordinary group of women and help each one communicate her authentic personal style.

At Poplin, our goal is to teach her to fish. That is, I want her to understand how to harness her own unique style, choose pieces that flatter her frame while making her look and feel her best everyday. Gone is the stress and overwhelm associated with getting dressed. Few things are as gratifying as seeing your vision realized.

Over the past couple of years, I’ve discovered just how well these women are fishing. When I see them at gatherings (or for client services), I’m reminded of how far they’ve come and how easily it all seems to come to them now. I often think that even they have forgotten how lost they felt when we met.

Because of this, we’re launching the Sustained Style Series. Over the next few months, we’ll share stories of long term Poplin clients. You might remember that we don’t have a “before and after” in Poplin-land. We only have today and moving forward.

You’ll hear her situation pre-Poplin, my approach and THEN, you’ll see her today. Each one is wearing clothes currently in her closet. That’s right. I just popped over to her place and we created some outfits for the photo shoots using only pieces that she owns (or is renting) right now. Some of the items were recommended by Poplin over the years, (I was delighted to find multiple pieces from our initial time together still active members of her regular looks), a few are even from the initial Uber Wishlist, and some of them she’s selected and purchased on her own. Many were recommendations from Continuum or the blog. In each case, she’s been cultivating her collection over 5, 7, 10, even 12 years or more since we first started together, expressing who she is each and everyday with her clothing.

We’re highlighting these clients because I love any excuse to see clients, but also, because each has engaged Poplin in the way that is just right for her. Once the initial package is complete, all clients shift to the hourly rate and bespoke services to meet their individual needs. Most stay connected via the newsletter, blog and sometimes LinkedIn. Beyond that, each has her own unique path- engaging with wishlists, outfits, styling or general brainstorming time periodically. Some reach out for services multiple times in a year. Others come back once every few years and still others completed the original package and haven’t been back at all.

Our goal is to offer a lifetime of service, to meet her where she is- without guilt or judgement. Here’s how these women have mastered their style over the years.

P.S. More Sustained Style stories coming soon AND expect some videos, too!

“Because Mellicia knows me, my style, and what I like, we don’t have to start over each time I reach out. She’s helped me over the years refine what we started together back in 2014... she gets it - she knows that that’s how life is - and is always helpful AND supportive as she gives me these bursts of inspiration and guidance.”

“She genuinely wants the people she works with to feel good about themselves and to thrive, and she understands that this goes beyond the beautiful clothes she helps us find.”
