A Pop of Power! Plus Size Style
Editor's note: Below you'll find another blog post from Poplin contributor and plus size fashion guru, Jordan Richardson.
Hello Dear Reader,
I hope you are all staying cool in these record breaking warm days. Who knew the PNW could sustain such heat, Yowza! In the hotter times I know I feel a bit more sluggish and have trouble motivating myself to dress up; so I try to look for throw on pieces to make it easier. Lately I've been thinking about power pieces, pieces that stand out and look instantly put together. I've culled together a couple eye catching, easy to wear pieces that will see you through the summer and into the cooler months.
Stand Out Styles
Working our way up to big and bright, lets start with this lovely orange sheath dress. The drape of this would be lovely on a diamond shaped figure bringing the eye away from the stomach to the legs and face via the well placed draping. The color also will work on more skin tones than you think, especially with that Chelan tan. Also a Holla'! While you're shopping for some of these great styles know that with any Nordstrom gift card purchase, 1% will go to charity. So if you are still looking for your nieces grad present, late fathers day present, best friends birthday then look no further! Shopping and Philanthropy, my favorite!
Ramp up the power factor, slip into this mob-esque jumpsuit and watch heads turn. Yes it may not be for some, but think power suit in a cinch. Clean modern lines, cut out back and a great tailored line makes this a little more classy and a little less mafioso. Plus think of the uses; meeting with investors, the presentation that leads to a promotion, heck even out for schmoozing and cocktails. This is a great look for the rectangle with the swing top piece adding some extra movement up top and breaking up the body a bit. This is a great practical transitional piece. Throw a great colored blazer on, layer a turtle neck under it, or even a great lightweight floral patterned coat to show your pattern mixing prowess.
Speaking of mixing patterns give this dress a gander! I love the fresh flirty feel, and man oh man how wonderful to have a piece where the pattern mixing has already been done for you! I love this piece and for a meeting with a new design client, accepting the rising star photography award or attending a garden wedding this is perfection. This look would be phenomenal on an inverted triangle, offering some great lower body balance.
Another one piece wonder in the form of this lovely flowery jumpsuit that would be quite the stunner in any board room. Just imagine the moment when a bit of wind picks up and you get a great drama moment with the swirling wide legs on this jumpsuit twirl. An hourglass shape would work so well in this, giving this flowy piece some va-va-voom. This can go from work to gallery openings, drinks with the girls, a networking event, and even to a new restaurant opening.
Taking it back to classic shapes with fun patterns, this great dress would be a killer look for a triangle looking for all eyes on her. I love the playfulness of the succulents on this dress, and the pattern combined with the skater skirt fullness help balance a more pear shaped figure. But really this dress would look smashing on any shape, lending waist definition, a great neckline to elongate the neck, and a roomy skirt silhouette an a great set of colors that would look lovely on any skin tone. It's a 10/10! Paired with a little cardigan in a complementary hue, a crisp cropped blazer in white with some extra cute sandals high or low and you are set.
Hopefully some of these strikes a cord with you! Take a chance, stand out, be the power player and look great doing it. These bright, powerful and eye catching pieces are just the key to easy dressing in this summer heat.
