IIT #15: Expert Advice on Lashes and Skincare from my Favorite Aestheticians at Cake Skincare

As a personal stylist for women, I get lots and lots of questions about referrals for hair, lashes, skincare, all the things. The good people at Cake Skincare and I go way, way back. This is my absolute favorite place for a luxurious skin treatment. The owner, Katrina, gifted me a set of Radical Skincare products years ago and I’ve been hooked ever since. When a client asks for a recommendation for the ideal place for skincare (lashes, facials, waxing, etc.), I always think of Cake.

We kicked off the In It Together Series a few months back to support the Poplin community during quarantine. I’ve been holding off on sharing a few posts until now, expecting that this situation might go on longer than originally anticipated… which it has.

Fortunately, Cake is slowly reopening with extra precautions to protect clients and the team. You can check the site to see when/if Cake is open thanks to an impressive effort to make educated decisions based on data from King County. If you are ready to get back into the world, you should book now as I expect the wait is a long one. If you are more comfortable holding off on personal care services, this guest post from one of my very favorite people, Kelly, will help you enjoy the spa at home. Enjoy and remember to take good care of yourself and shop local.

Last but not least, I learned recently from a therapist friend, that when you hug someone for at least 3 minutes without talking, your heart beats sync up. I love everything about this. Think of it as your free self care tip for the day.

How to Treat Yourself at Home with Cake Skincare’s Kelly Perez Snyder

What can I do at home to give my skin some extra love?

It’s in times like these that we find ourselves carving out more “me time” now that we have it. Many of our clients are feeling this as well and wanting to explore a little more. Now’s a great time to explore playing with masks. Masking is a really nice way to feel pampered. We think a nice hydrating mask is great especially when we are under some serious stress. Here are some of our favorites right now:

Bio Cell Mask- this is a hydrating and brightening sheet mask. We love it for its hydration and the ease of using it.

Side note from Mellicia: I LOVE this product and use regularly. I also really love to give it as a gift to friends. Right now, it’s something you can toss in the mail with a card to lift a friend’s spirits:)

Cool Lychee Wa - for plumping this is our go to.  You can also leave it on overnight for a deeper hydrating treatment.

For double duty, bang for your buck masks, our go to is any of the Peels from Sircuit Cosmeceuticals. They are all exfoliating as well as hydrating. Mocha Loca is going to help with breakouts, Double Trouble is plumping and Youth Accelerator is great at treating pigment.

This has been a challenging time for folks who have lash extensions. What’s the best way to take care of your lashes right now?

We have a lot of lash extension wearing clients too so we’ve found ourselves recommending how to safely grow out extensions. We recommend they start using Revitalash to help nourish and strengthen their lashes so when we are able to do services again they will have lots of healthy lashes to lash. It also helps with the shock of your lashes not being there anymore.

Side note from Mellicia: I also love this one and have given it as a gift to a good friend who was struggling with disappearing eyebrows. Fun Fact: Not only will it help your lashes, but it can help your eyebrows, as well.

The more we wash our hands, the drier they get. What’s your favorite product for that?

Of course we are all dealing with crazy dry hands right now. Goē Oil is perfect for this and keeps hands from cracking. This is something we deal with year round because of our frequent washing and glove wearing while we are working. A little goes a long way and it can be used all over the body too which is nice.

How can we support Cake right now?
