If you travel, a portable steamer is essential. One might assume that these wouldn't be powerful enough to bother. In many cases, that's true. But this one is going to blow your mind. And yes, you can simply have a portable steamer and skip the upright. It's really about what's best for you. I like to have both .
Hot tip: Keep your portable steamer in a logical place at home so you can find it when you are ready to take a trip. I like to keep ours in the laundry room next to the dryer sheets and Dryel (another essential for keeping pieces fresh).
I've been loving this one for 4 years or so. They have newer models and those have also been successful with my clients. I recommend keeping it in the corner of the room, your closet or even another room that's easily accessible. We keep ours in my office. My husband steams his clothes every morning. I've heard this from several clients, too. Apparently, their partners really enjoy the steaming process.
Hot tip: Hang a hook from your ceiling so that you can hand clothes high enough to steam the entire piece. Make sure the hook is low enough to reach.
I am obsessed with organic dryer balls. If you are looking for a small but mighty step toward helping the environment and simplifying your life, dryer balls are the answer. They cut down drying time up to 30-50%, depending on your dryer. That means less energy usage AND less time in between loads. They also decrease wrinkles and static cling.
Dry cleaning is expensive. In many cases, you can wash an item in the delicate cycle and hang it to dry. But, that’s not always the case. For dry clean only items, consider trying Dryel. I wouldn’t use it on a super expensive designer piece; but it does work very well for sweaters and other items listed as, “dry clean only.” Try at your own risk, of course.
For wear and tear on sweaters, a fabric shaver can increase the life of your pieces and is a pretty gratifying task once you dive in. My friend, Annie Traurig is an effective home organizer and recommends this Gleener shaver above all others. It comes with a lint brush and three different edges to target a different kind of pill. You can even use it on cushions and upholstry! My clients love it.
Your closet should feel like a boutique curated just for you. Therefore, if something doesn’t fit you right now, it should not be in your closet. That doesn’t mean you need to give it away. Instead, store it in another location in your house. If a few pieces need to be stored, try a closet in another room. If there are more, I like these. Everything can be hung and is accessible, without being in your closet. I keep mine in the garage.
Let me know how it goes! Need a little extra help? That's what I'm here for. And, hey, congratulations on taking your style to the next level. I knew you could do it.
My husband got me my first set of silk pillowcases and I’ve been reminded how much I love them every night when I go to sleep. First, I can immediately tell which pillow is mine:) But the real joy of silk pillowcases is how magical they are for your skin. Help your skin retain moisture and prevent wrinkles while decreasing bed head and split ends. Here’s a list of 10 reasons why a silk pillowcase will bring you joy. Fun fact: They are affordable, too.
