My Favorite Things: Black Friday Edition
It's super sale season again. I don't know about you, but my shopping list is long. I've been hoarding items as I wait for the Black Friday Sales to kick off. Of course, there are some items that were too dreamy too risk it- and I've purchased those over the past few weeks. My criteria? Is it likely that my size will be there when Black Friday Sales arrive and if not, am I willing to risk losing it? If not, I buy. Otherwise, it goes on my Pinterest Boards as I await the sales.
It’s super sale season again. I don’t know about you, but my shopping list is long. I’ve been hoarding items as I wait for the Black Friday sales to kick off. Of course, there are some pieces that were too dreamy to risk—so I’ve purchased those over the past few weeks. My criteria? Is it likely that my size will still be there when the Black Friday sales arrive and, if not, am I willing to risk losing it? If not, I buy. Otherwise, it goes onto my Pinterest boards while I await the deals.
As someone who spends a very high percentage of my time deep in shopping mode, I’m THRILLED to share two crazy-comprehensive Black Friday lists with you. But I’ll be honest: my general approach to the season is to think about the brands and retailers you love, jump on their mailing lists, and get ready. After all, nearly every retailer is going to offer some sort of sale. It’s better to intentionally focus on the brands and items that speak to you than to be wooed by overwhelming markdowns.
Jonesing for something unique or different? You’ll find a laundry list of brands that are likely new to you on these Black Friday lists.
As for me, I vote for one luxurious item to buy on super sale.
About five years ago, a lovely client introduced me to the LG Styler Smart Steam Closet. At that time, this luxury interior designer was including it in every remodel for multi-million-dollar homes. One cost around $10,000 and wasn’t in the price range of most blog readers. But times have changed! Now, this heart-stopping item can be found for between $1,000 and $2,000, depending on the specifications you choose.
Let me reassure you that THIS is the deal of a lifetime—and one worth taking advantage of. Fun fact: yesterday, I did just that.
You likely know what an evangelist I am for steamers. I love our stand-up steamer and use our handheld when we travel. I haven’t ironed in years. It’s all steaming, all the time. Here’s why you need a steamer:
6 Reasons You Need a Steamer
To freshen up your clothes quickly, without ironing
To wash your clothes less frequently
To lengthen the life of your clothes
To save money
To save time
To easily launder items that wouldn’t typically go in the washing machine
If you don’t already have a steamer (or you haven’t had much luck with your current steamer), here’s my favorite upright steamer and my favorite handheld steamer. We’ve been using both for a number of years. Typically, we use our upright steamer almost daily—every member of our three-person family uses it. (Heads up! These are part of our recommended Style Essentials. Check out all my favorite things to extend the life of your items, store them beautifully and live your most stylish life.)
Why You Need the LG Styler Steam Closet
This will truly blow your mind.
The LG Styler Steam Closet is a cabinet that steams your clothes. That’s right. There are multiple sizes, each of which accommodates a different quantity of items. Hang your pieces inside and walk away, only to return to a wrinkle-free, freshly deodorized item.
We happen to have a European-style washing machine and ventless dryer. Each is more environmentally friendly than a standard washer and dryer, which is a major plus and our reasoning behind purchasing them. However, the ventless dryer also takes ages to dry items. This is better for the clothes, as it decreases wear and tear from the friction of laundering clothing. It is not, however, better for my life of laundry ;) I have adjusted to this new paradigm and toss loads of wash in nearly every day.
No more.
The LG system means we can wash our clothes even less frequently, and it saves valuable time in the mornings as each of us can skip steaming the day’s outfits.
Equally important: large blankets, comforters, stuffed animals, and an array of items that are time-consuming to wash can also be deodorized in the steam closet. It’s all the things! You can even get a mirrored front, making it disappear in your closet.
Yes, there are other brands, and I encourage you to dive into your research to find the best fit for you. I don’t sell these babies, nor am I an expert. But what I can tell you is that the savings for Black Friday Week are stellar—and THIS is that big splurge that you and your family will never regret.
