Win an Environmentally Conscious Tote Bag made by Local Artist George Jennings (Reusable, Artistic, Diverse AND Versatile)

George and Nakeesa have been friends of mine for years. You may recognize some of the images below from cards I’ve mailed out over the years. Or, you might have seen me carrying around my favorite George Jennings totes. (I have two!) I’m especially excited to share Sophia’s take on George’s work and to give you an opportunity to win one of your own! Enjoy.

Editor’s note: As a member of the Poplin community, by now you know how much importance I place on creating opportunities for people to be seen and heard. I’m ELATED to introduce a new Poplin contributor, Sophia Rahimi. Sophia has a deep love of fashion that is contagious. When I met her, I knew that helping amplify her voice would be as valuable to you, Dear Reader, as it would be to her. It’s pretty great to hear from the next generation, and as such, you’ll be hearing from her from time over the next few months. Enjoy!

About George

George Jennings started of his artistic career in Washington D.C, learning from his very accomplished and talented grandfather, John N. Robinson. His grandfather was a fine art painter and from him, George learned the fundamentals of art. His grandfather was his first inspiration. Over the years, George discovered artists such as Alponse Mucha, Maxfield Parrish, Patrick Nagel and Japanese Anime, who further inspired his work. George is a well-rounded artist who has experience working with many different types of paint.  His work has won awards, has been featured in print and online publications. Additionally, he has enjoyed several opportunities to teach as a guest instructor at both, the Gage Academy of Art and the Bellevue Art Museum. For the past 20 years, George and his wife Nakeesa have called Seattle their home.

These three Tote bags are some of MY favorites but there are so many fabulous ones on his page to check out on his websites gallery . What makes these bags so great is the fact that they are not only environmentally conscious, reusable and washable, but that they are also racially stimulated displaying various people of color. Additionally, they are unique, colorful and trendy!

5 Different Ways the Bags and Pouches can be Used.

  1. iPad Case

The “Ballerina” tote being used as an iPad case.

2. Phone Case

The “Koi” Pouch being used as a phone case. This pouch works great as a phone case because it is easy for a phone to blend in with the rest of your stuff in your purse, but the color and vibrance of this pouch makes it easy to spot.

3. A Wallet

The Nakeesa Pouch

4. A Make-up Bag

It’s a great way to keep some of your essential beauty products with you at all times. The bags can be washed if they get dirty from the make-up!

5. A Stylish Everyday Purse

Be unique and show appreciation for African Culture with the incredible “Bluebird Tote”

Hey guys! My name is Sophia and I graduated from San Francisco State University, with a degree in Consumer Family Science, and an emphasis in Fashion Merchandise. I lived in Germany until the age of 12 and originate from Persia, so I speak three different languages. My mom has seven sisters and one brother, then all of the sisters have kids (majority girls). All of us love clothes! I would describe my personal style as trendy, 90’s grunge and Euro.
