There's More to me than my Face. How do I Take Care of the Rest of my Skin?

It feels like we are bombarded with information about skincare. Well, it feels that way to me, anyway. Thanks to the skincare team at Cake Skincare, I feel like the skin on my face has never looked better. (At 40, that's really saying something.) However, I struggle with the best course of action for the skin on the rest of my body. As a personal stylist for women and kids, ask me about clothes, and I'm all over it. Ask me about skincare, and I turn to Cake.

So, on a recent visit I asked Amber and Kelly, two Cake Skincare Experts, for some advice and realized this is gold for you, Dear Reader. Below you'll find a comprehensive list of what you must know now to take care of your skin. Can't wait for you to read! Happy Weekend!

Body Skincare 101 from the Experts at Cake Skincare

Post-workout body care.

Preserve Cleansing Pads Detox. Cake Skincare. $38. (I use these!)

The dreaded post-workout body breakout...the struggle is real!  We love using a simple wipe like our Preserve Detox pads after a workout on the neck, back and chest.  These little powerhouses combine pore-purging salicylic acid with calming essential oils like Rosemary and Geranium that help balance the skin and reduce inflammation after an intense workout.

Body brushes.

Body brushes are super amazing for our skin.  You want to dry brush daily in an upward motion towards your heart.  And brush everything, the brushing stimulates lymph so there is no piece of skin that should be left neglected.  In addition to stimulating lymph, it also is a great form of exfoliation.  You want to be exfoliating on a regualr basis to keep your skin healthy and happy.  Exfoliation is a great way to remove dead skin cells and prevent ingrowns.  It will also allow maximum product penetration. When looking for a body brush think about the ease of using it.  There are so many kinds out there. Personally, I prefer a brush that is easy to hold and it covers a larger surface area so I can brush very quickly after I shower.  We retail amazing body brushes for $10. Just call Cake to order.

Body lotion.

I always like to apply a really great body lotion from shoulders to toes after my shower.  I personally like a lotion that absorbs really well and doesn't leave a greasy film.  My favorite right now is by Radical Skincare. Its amazing because in addition to feeling really hydrating on the skin it also helps to diminish hyperpigmenttaion (brown spots), it is firming, lifting and helps improve collagen synthesis.  All things we love and need!  We retail Radical Skincare Firming Body Multi-repair Creme for $95.

Body oil.

Radical Skincare Firming Body Multi-repair Creme. Cake Skincare. $95.

With so many different types of body oils on the market I believe this to be a very personal choice in which feels best on your skin.  Here are a few good ones to try.  Grapeseed oil is high in vitamin C and can help to brighten your skin.  Sunflower oil is great because it is a thinner oil and can be absorbed into the skin more quickly. Olive oil is great for really dry skin and is rich in antioxidants.  Apricot kern oil is my personal favorite because it is very light and absorbs quickly into the skin.  It is also full of vitamins A, C, and E which are antioxidants that help protect the skin from signs of agin and sun damage.

 Apricot Kern Oil. Amazon. $7.97.

Body peels.

Over indulging in the sun during the summer months in Seattle (after not seeing those rays for 9 months!) can manifest on the skin as crepey-looking, discolored or hyperpigmented patches commonly found on the arms, hands and decolette area.  We offer a service from PCA skincare - the Smoothing Body Peel - that delivers safe, effective results and total skin conditioning to lighten those stubborn little patches. Clients see the best results when waiting until the fall months to do this treatment after the onset of cooler, long-sleeve weather.  The peel is formulated  with potent yet gentle ingredients that will even discoloration while smoothing and brightening the skin.  Results are gradual and cumulative, as we don't want to shock or over-exfoliate the skin, so we typically recommend a series of 1-3 peels for best results.  You can expect the skin to flake afterwards but there is minimal to no downtime.
